Some women wait 20 years to get pregnant and it never happens. Meghan Markle waited 60 days. She was pregnant SIXTY days after her wedding. Ouch. Some women wait 60 days just to get a freaking doctor’s appointment.
We knew it was coming. For a hot minute I wondered what would happen if she couldn’t….but, alas, Meghan Markle is pregnant. Before you check out her registry (I mean….obviously, the baby needs 10,000 baby shoes from all over the world), remember that we are still seeing articles about her wedding dress, shoes, flowers, etc.
Perspective, people…..
We see headlines like “Meghan and Harry have been wanting a baby for a while…A while!? Huh? They met in 2016. Less than 1000 days ago.
I’ve never met either one of them. (Shocking, I know.) And I am not attempting to minimize their joy and happiness. But sheesh. Let’s put this in perspective. Trying to get pregnant for years and years and years… THAT is a while. 60 days!? Not so much. I have blue jeans wayyyyyyyy older than that. But that is another story.
The agony of self questioning
Hearing about someone’s pregnancy can sting. But hearing about someone getting pregnant almost instantly!? It can cause childless women to get into a deep spiral of “why”. Why couldn’t I get pregnant? What prevented me from trying <insert test>? Why did I wait so long to try? What would have happened if I had started testing sooner? Why didn’t I try a different doctor?
I can see the future.
This is what happens:
Is she pregnant? She is pregnant. Do you see a baby bump? She is cradling her bump.
Her bump is growing. Isn’t she radiant?
List of her top 20 maternity outfits. How does she walk in heels while 9 months pregnant?
Has she had the baby? She had the baby. Babies are a blessing.
Have we seen the baby? We’ve seen the baby!
Is the baby crawling? Walking? Starting school? Graduating? Getting married? Having children?
It. Never. Ends. We will be in this child’s life regardless if we want to be or not. And childless women have to sit on the sidelines and watch this. Are we bitter? Well, some are. Some aren’t. And some are just holding on…and trying to avoid Baby Watch breaking news. Numb.
